Repurposed

The 40th anniversary of Earth Day is inspiring some to explore ways to utilize the resources that already exist around us, rather than endlessly creating more stuff, only to add it to the growing mounds of landfills and refuse. Kudos to Crispina Ffrench and the members of the artists' community she is growing in Pittsfield. Housed in a repurposed church, the Alchemy Intiative is helping local artists to live and develop their work in ecologically sensitive ways. This weekend's event at the Initiative is a clothing swap made possible by dozens of people who donated bags and bags of goodies. Tonight the redesigned sanctuary of the church was the setting for a fashion show of repurposed clothing, creatively outfitted on the volunteer models. Tomorrow will be the clothing swap where the community is invited to come and carry away all new duds (new to them). I applaud Crispina's vision of creating fun and fashion in an ecologically intelligent way.

Back in business

After a year of down time, I'm ready to start blogging again. I want to follow progress I'm making in my yoga practice, my teaching practice, some new workshops I'm cooking up, and my domestic pursuits of cooking and gardening.

New commitment

Yes, I'm making a new commitment to blog here more frequently about my continuing activities and a few new ones:

  • Nia classes in my home studio and on the Williams College campus

  • Morning yoga practice with the Conte Community School faculty in Pittsfield

  • Four children's yoga classes during my one day each week at Conte School

  • My after-school Spanish yoga class with kids in grades 1, 2, and 3

  • My weekly Spanish lessons with tutor Jess Bashara (thanks, Jess)

  • My growing interest in bullying and the relationship/communication skills related to it

  • My continuing efforts to eat gluten-free

  • My connections with a few other bloggers, especially the fabulous Bloomin and Zoomin group that came together at Kripalu
  • Domestic pursuits such as cooking and gardening

What else? By looking at the list above, I should be able to find something to say.
